I have some random complaints floating around in the old gray matter that I must get rid of.
EMAIL-
Now I don't mind when I get email from any of you all, no matter how silly. You are my peeps and if you want to send me something I want to hear from you BUT for the love of all that is HOLY I am so dang tired of the DAILY emails from the Disney Store Online. To beat it all I get two of the darn things.
You know I love to buy their products when I can catch them on sale but I seriously don't need to hear from them every single darn day. Other offenders who hit me daily are Bergdorf Goodman, Macy's, Saks Fifth Ave, Amazon, Kitchen Krafts, Chef's, BlueFly, Barnes & Noble, Wayside Gardens, Lillian Vernon and Jackson & Perkins. It does no good to unsubscribe, because the next time you buy something they hit you again!
Then add to that the goofy spam and well you see why it takes me an hour to get through my email. It seems like the email has amped up since the economy went under. Have any of you all noticed the same thing?
House Resolution-875 and Senate Resolution 425
Deanna wrote about it yesterday and today you are going to hear from me.
Some misguided people seem to believe that this does not effect the backyard gardener, but they would be wrong. It does. The wording of the bill is written rather vaguely and can be interpreted any way the government wishes.
It also effects the hunter who would go out and kill a deer to feed his family, consuming that deer would be illegal under this act.
It's called the Food Safety Act, but what you need to know, is that it is being pushed by some of the biggest food conglomerates in the US. I won't name them here, but do your own research people.
I will get down to semantics here, while yes, the bill does not come right out and say "backyard gardening is prohibited" it DOES set up the REGULATION of ALL gardening that is for human consumption. It sets up the state agriculture departments to go out and do the policing. It sets standards that have to be met and pesticides to be used. I ask you if you have to jump through all of these hoops to grow a few tomatoes to share with your friends and family how long are you going to garden?
Exactly, once all of the rules and regulations are in place, the only ones that can afford to farm will be (wait for it)
the food conglomerates!
You know I have something to say about the food conglomerates. Peter Pan peanut butter is owned by corporate giant ConAgra Foods. Being a conglomerate didn't make their peanut butter any safer when it came to a salmonella outbreak.
Pick ANY of the big food conglomerates, and you will find numerous legal skirmishes. I keep thinking of the big popcorn company that makes microwave popcorn and how their workers get sick with lung illnesses from the chemicals that are used in processing.
Food conglomerates aren't the answer. You need to support your local family farmer and farmer's market.
Well that's all for now, I will post later today hopefully with pictures of our local TEA Party!

How's your mom doing?
Agree with all you say...popcorn, there is no need to buy it in those bags coated with fake butter, just pop it in a regular brown paper bag and it does fine, and cheaper, too!
Hope your mom is doing better!
Moo!
I'm getting them daily from Amazon, Borders and Old Navy. Sigh.
I've started marking those emails as spam. My spam filter then blocks them. Because, yeah, J.Crew, I don't shop there EVERY SINGLE DAY. Right?
Good grief - what will they try to legislate against next? :(
I'm with you on the email spamming, too!
OK you wrote this awhile ago, but this morning I thought I was going to PUKE when the news kept saying this morning that gardening is the "new thing" this year and it was the FIRST LADIES IDEA! AAAUUUUGGGGHHHHH!
I hadn't heard of those bills, but I sadly completely believe it. There are already legalities in place that mean if you live near a conglomerate farm and one of their plants creates a hybrid with one of yours (as plants do sometimes), you can go to jail for theft.
