Hey kiddoes, sorry it's been so long since I posted. I have been quiet because I am just so fed up with this whole double wide fiasco and it gets old bitchin all the time! ;-)
All I can say is NEVER buy a home from Clayton. I should have known it would not go down well, given my dislike for Warren Buffet since he owns them and he proudly gives his money to the Demoncratic party and is one of the idiots responsible for our current "dear leader".
The pregnancy is going. I had my visit with the high risk OB before Christmas and the baby looks fine as far as they were concerned. They weren't able to get a good enough look at the heart(baby was in the breech position*) so they want me to come back later this month. Still not confirmed on the sex of the baby.
I could tell from they way the doctor talked to me that they were very concerned about Down's Syndrome. From what they said to me it was evident that they would have strongly encouraged me to end the pregnancy if Down's was present.
Humph-they don't know me too well is all I have to say about that. I mean, seriously, if Sarah Palin can run the state of Alaska, and run for VP, all the while caring for a child with Downs, I would be more than up to the challenge since my life is not nearly as busy as hers. That doctors visit left me feeling rather ill at ease is all I can say. All right say it with me kids-EUGENICS. I seriously left there feeling like I needed a bath in bleach.
The strike at my husband's company is still ongoing. It's stressing everyone out, the 12 hour shifts just to keep the plant going so those sorry strikers will have a job to come back to is a soul-sucking task.
From reading my thoughts about this strike, and knowing my conservative bent, you might think I would be anti-union. At this point in my life I can say you would be correct sir.
But here's the rest of what you need to know, I come from a long line of coal miners. My West Virginia ancestors had to strike and fight to earn a real wage**. The struggles of the past have NO bearing what-so-ever on this present day strike. These people are greedy-pure and simple.
One of the benefits they are striking for is 401K matching funds, which ALL of the non-union employees lost last year when the housing market collapsed. The company promised that when sales picked up the benefit would be restored and I believe them. Since the company makes sealant for windows their business is very much tied to the construction and housing industry.
My mom is doing ok. She is having some pain and I am worried about her. She has an oncologist appointment next week-I pray it goes well. I'm just not strong enough to make it without her. So any prayers would be appreciated.
Here in the Bluegrass we are freezing our butts off! It's down to 15 degrees as I write this, and we are expecting 3-6 inches of snow in the coming hours. Yo-Algore-where's this global warming you have been threatening/promising?
I hope all of you are having a Blessed and Wonderful New Year! God Bless all of you!
*At this stage of development the baby is doing somersaults on a daily basis so it won't be a problem.
**Historically coal miners were paid with scrip, which had no monetary value and could only be exchanged for overpriced goods at the company store. They were forced to live in company housing which was very often substandard. If the miner was injured and unable to work the family would be forced from the home and out in the streets. Hi, good luck with the baby. My daughter has Down's syndrome and is now almost 20yrs. It's not all plain sailing but I wouldn't swap her for the world. She works, volunteers at Riding for the Disabled, has a good social life and rides her own pony. Her health has been pretty good but she did require heart surgery as a baby. She has a fantastic sense of humour and went through mainstream school. I work for a charity for families with a member with Down's syndrome and I think 95% of families I know wouldn't change a thing.
I went to the high risk OB for both pregnancies, first pregnancy because it was twins and second pregnancy because I was 35. I think they are so pessimistic about it because they want to prepare you for anything. I remember when J-man flunked his first hearing test in the hospital and they were all "Bring him back, but he could be deaf and this and that and therapy! Oh the agony!" And I was like, "So? We'll learn sign language. What's the problem?" So many times, our health care providers over-react about everything because of that .1% of patients who go off the deep end.
Sorry it's all so hard right now. Sending you love from GA. :)
You know you're in my prayers Heather and God's got His hand on you in every situation from the double-wide to your mom to the pregnancy - He's got in all under control so hang in there, know you're loved and don't lose the faith.
Wow Heather you have a lot on your plate!
I didn't know you were still having problems with the Clayton home, I thought it was just the jacuzzi tub that changed your floor plan and all was well.
I am keeping good thougths and prayers for you and your baby. When are you due?
I'll keep your husband in my prayers too, hoping the strike ends soon.
I agree with you about unions. they had their time and plance, now they are just money sucking pigs.
im sorry to hear about your baby situation. :/
as for clayton, my moma bought a trailer from them once - took them forever to get it to the lot, then it was just once half the other half magically became MIA, 8 days later they found it (i have no clue where it was, i was like 8 at the time)bringing it up the holler they managed to whipe out the bank and tear up the drive, damage in which, they refused to fix.
As for the strikers - that sucks their on strike. why they striking over a 401K? i lost mine. everyone did i think. its life. But ya know, It sucks the UMWA has fallen apart and been reduced to afew remaining mines thanks to Massey and its minions. Ill tell ya, I pulled a 38hr shift last week splicing belts at my mine, they promised to give me a bigger coal bonus, and split my shift on the schedule so MSHA wouldnt notice I worked longer than 12hrs. (the other hrs are missing, hence where the bigger coal bonus comes from) Since the belt in question was our main on the haulageway, it had to be fixed ASAP, and leaving after 12hrs meant my job, so i was screwed. Welcome to the coal industry of the 21st century! lol.
oh and you may wanna check out http://coalcampusa.com theres alot of historical info there on the coalfields as well as photos of the camps and what not :)
My Father and Grandfather and Uncles worked for the Red Parrot Coal mine in Prenter, WV back in the 1930's and 1940's. I've been back there to visit several times in the past ten years and things haven't changed very much except some of the old "shotgun" houses have fallen down or been torn down.
The sad thing is that while mining is safer than it was 60 or 80 years ago the use of automation and conversion to strip mining has cut the worker population--union or otherwise--down to next to nothing.
Good luck with the house and the baby...God will provide (unfortunately on his own time I've learned...)
