On my mind....

When I saw the information about the earthquake in China this week, it made me think(yeah I know that's dangerous for the likes of the lunatic-but anyhoo).
I keep seeing the coverage that talks about the affected area being the size of the entire continental United States. I fear that the death toll is going to be staggering.
The news footage on NBC tonight was so poignant, seeing the victims wandering aimlessly along roads where the concrete was bursting up from the earth. Those poor people looked like the walking dead.
What if this earthquake is the catalyst to overthrow the oppressive Communist dictatorship in China?
It is something to think about.

Interesting thought.

I also wonder what will happen with the Olympics.

Ever since 9/11, I've not been able to watch the news about the catastrophes in the world - terrorist caused or not. I'm probably the world's biggest wimp. Hurricane Katrina caused me to leave my TV off during the news hours. Same for the Thailand tsunami. The current cyclone and earthquake have done the same. I really try not to bury my head in the sand about these issues (I read newspapers and web stories and listen to the radio) just can't watch the images.

I, too, wonder about the state of their government after this. The country I feel horrible about is Burma/Myanmar. That cyclone was a horrible blow to an already suppressed population.

I have heard that the death toll is currently about 50,000, which is about the same as in the recent hurricane in Burma. It's terrible.

Imagine the media coverage if this happened in the US or Europe!

What an interesting thought. I look at that nightmare and just hurt for all those parents who lost their children or are desperate to feed them now.

I have also wondered how the Olympics would be affected, Doghouse, but when people are homeless and hungry I figure that is not really important. I really wasn't that crazy about it being held in China to begin with.

I hadn't thought of that, but I did wonder what would happen to Tibet. Seems like the perfect time to escape China. The Olympics seems to be doomed this time around.

Yes what a tragedy. China, Turkey, when there is an earthquake the lack of building code enforcement just dooms those people.

(Cow looking around at all the un-reinforced brick buildings) maybe it would be bad here too though. And after Katrina Cow wouldn't hope for a speedy or efficient rescue response from the Feds, that's for sure.

Cow did talk to a lot of the local and state rescue personnel after Katrina and they about killed themselves helping. But with most of the taxes we pay going to the Feds it seems they should have done more to help.

Moo!
