Disjointed thoughts

I have had so many thoughts in my head and on my heart since we got home from Ohio. I can't seem to put them in to words for some reason. Don't know why, just can't. This post is somewhat rambling, and disjointed as a result.

Hamilton has about three motels and they aren't chain motels either. All I will say is at least the one we stayed in was clean. They didn't have WiFi, the pool was out of order, and the A/C wasn't cold enough, so I can tell you that I was in Hell, as far as that goes.

Aunt H held up pretty well. Toddles and I did not and it totally caught us by surprise. We got to the funeral home and went through the line to see Aunt H and I hugged her and so did Todd. She seemed so frail, like she hadn't before. I told her I was so sorry, and I had been expecting it for a few months now, and then burst into tears. I think I hadn't fully realized that Uncle B was gone until then. Todd started crying as well.

Paddycake behaved wonderfully for us. He only got a little squirmy the last twenty minutes of the wake because he was hungry and sleepy, but I was able to keep him under control.

So we left the wake and got some grub at the Bob Evans. Then we traveled to see one of the area's big attractions Jungle Jim's. Jungle Jim's is a supermarket. Now before you think I am a giant dork(uh, I probably am) or that I am probably food obsessed(probably guilty there too), go look at those websites. Go on, I will wait.

We got there only a half hour before closing time and Paddy got scared of the singing Campbell's Soup Can, so I only got to look at a very few things, but I did get to see their Jelly Belly selection. They must have every flavor Jelly Belly makes, and every kind of candy that you could possibly want. I really want to go back there! All I can say if you ever find yourself in the Cincinnati area with a few hours to kill, get someone to take you to Jungle Jim's!

We went back to the hotel and started to get ready for bed. I took my shower and then sat down on the bed to watch some TV. The boys already went to sleep, I just laid there watching reruns, while my muscles throbbed. I took my muscle relaxer, dried my hair, and then took two Benadryl, turned off the TV and laid there! When I finally got to sleep about 1:ooAM, I sat up in bed at exactly 5:30AM, it took forever to go back to sleep. Todd had a wake up call for us at 7:00AM so we could all get ready and be at the funeral home by 10:30AM. Later T told me she and f-i-l didn't sleep either and ended up watching a movie until about 1:30AM.

The funeral was lovely, if you can call a funeral that. One of the pastors is married to one of f-i-l's nieces. Before the service he went around and asked everyone to jot down some of their favorite stories or funny anecdotes of Uncle B. Aunt L (sister of f-i-l, and Aunt H and favorite target of Uncle B) told of the time when she and her husband G, along with Uncle B and Aunt H, went to the local yogurt shop. Aunt L somehow got tangled up and fell off of her chair to the floor. Now you must know that these people do not drink, and are complete tea totalers.
So in a very loud voice Uncle B announces "I can't take these drunks anywhere!" Everyone roared with laughter. Pastor S told about how long he had been married into the family and that every time he saw Uncle B he was greeted with love and laughter. It was a really wonderful service. Since Uncle B was a veteran the graveside service had a twenty-one gun salute.

After the funeral, we were invited to a little lunch counter were Uncle B, would eat lunch at least three times a week. Uncle B was one of their favorites, they aren't open on Saturday, so they generously fixed us a meal, of ham, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, salad and dessert of chocolate cake and coconut pie. It was so nice, and thoughtful. Then when we were getting ready to go, the owner offered to give us his phone number in case we had car trouble on the way home. You could have knocked me over with a feather! I was completely shocked that these people who didn't know us but thought so much of Uncle B that they would offer to go out of their way for us. I plan on sending them a note or card of thanks.

Well, I will go for now since I have got to get in bed. I will fill you in on the Aquarium tomorrow. Today I hope to see The King, Richard Petty, his son Kyle and wife Patti, "Handsome" Harry Gant, Supermodel Nicki Taylor, Football great Herschel Walker, Chik-Fil-A COO Don Cathy, and Nascar Champ Matt Kenseth! I am beyond giddy!!!

Wow ... that grocery store looks amazing.

Heather, I'm glad you got to spend some time with your family, even if it was a funeral.
[hugs]

I'm glad things went relatively well, and that the service did a good job of reflecting the person. The treatment you got from perfect strangers says a lot about him too.

I saw a feature on Jungle Jim's on the Food Network. It looks really cool.

BTW, found this article yesterday, didn't know if you had seen it.

I think you are doing what you can to make the best out of an awful situation. I am glad you enjoyed your trip (as much as you could).

And thank you SO MUCH for the link to Jungle Jim's. Oh my Lord. And you are not a dork. I am the kind of person that stops by Whole Foods and the like when I vacation, and they don't even offer cooking classes or singing soup cans.
